All Collier County households of union members received a robocall last month in support of one candidate on the ballot this fall.
Collier County School Board District 3 candidate JB Holmes was selected to be robocalled by the Southwest Chapter of the South Florida AFL-CIO. Holmes is one of six Farm Team candidates in the state voted by the regional chapters to be robocalled in support of their campaign. The calls were paid for by the national AFL-CIO.
Because Holmes, who is a member of a teacher’s union, is from the Central Labor Council in Southwest Florida’s area, the union voted to support him, said Lyle Farmar, president of the Central Labor Council in Southwest Florida. The robocall went out once to all households of union members in Collier County during the end of July, Farmar said.
“I think he’s the best choice for the working families in Collier County,” said Farmar, who added that robocalling candidates happens every election.
